I always feel like a loser doing this, but if feeling like a loser were a deterrent for me, I’d never get anything done. This site (EricDSnider.com, if you’re lost) requires time and money to operate, yet very little time or money ever flows back into it. So maybe you’re wondering how you can help support the site? The ways are many.

- Buy stuff. There’s merchandise, you know, over here at the merchandise page, reasonably priced and just as reasonably entertaining. Many other people have bought this merchandise with no noticeable ill effects.

- Support our advertisers. When you click on a link to Amazon, we get a tiny kickback — even if the thing you buy wasn’t the item you originally clicked on. As long as you got to the site from EricDSnider.com, it counts.

So next time you’re thinking of doing some Amazon shopping, come here first, click on any Amazon link anywhere on the site (almost every movie review has one), and THEN do your shopping.

Or better yet! Replace your current Amazon bookmark with this one. That link takes you to the Amazon homepage with the EricDSnider.com code already built in. We’ll get credit for it even though you didn’t actually come here first. Sneaky!

And if you haven’t already joined Netflix, may I suggest you do so? And may I also suggest that you click on the link I just gave you when you do?

- Be an advertiser. If you’ve got something to pimp, be it merchandise, a service, or a Web site of your own, you can do your pimping here. For $10 you get 5,000 impressions — 5,000 pairs of eyes seeing your ad, seeing that you’ve chosen to advertise on such a classy site, seeing that your product/service/Web site must surely be a thing of refinement. Text ads in “In the Dark” are available, too. In either case, you can e-mail me for details.

-Just give us money. You know how sometimes you just want to throw some money around without actually getting anything in return? We get that feeling all the time. If such a mood should strike you, feel free to donate a couple bucks here. (That link is also found under the “Buy Stuff” tab on the navigation bar at the top of every page.)

Remember, the more money the site brings in, the fewer mind-numbing articles about knee-length shorts I have to write.

If there was anything on the merchandise page that I didn’t already own i’d probably buy it. I just looked through it though and I have everything there and more.

  2. David Manning Says:

Back when you were still charging for new Snide Remarks (as well as some other, older ones that should have been free), was the income from that alone enough to cover the cost of running the site? One last thing… How long has this site existed? I’ve been coming to it since late 2002.

  3. Eric D. Snider Says:

Yes (and then some), and since 1997.

  4. David Manning Says:

Wow! Thanks for choosing people like me over spare money! Funny enough, you made Snide Remarks free about a month or two after I had stopped going to your site because I had read everything free on it. I came back for old time’s sake, and next thing you saved another fan.

Eric, since I live in Europe, when I buy from Amazon, I use the UK site. Can it be fixed so that purchases from there go to you too? Or would that be more trouble than it’d be worth? (Perhaps you don’t get many visitors from over here.)

  6. Eric D. Snider Says:

Unfortunately, no, the UK version of Amazon doesn’t work for U.S.-based affiliates such as myself.

  7. Lindsay Says:

Hey Eric - If you put another book of your snide remarks columns I would definitely buy it. Maybe a “best of” sort of book covering the last couple of years. My brother has the other two books and really likes them but he doesn’t read the new columns on line. A new book would have made a good Christmas present for a couple of my siblings.

  8. Brandy Says:

On another site I go to (jonathancolton.com) - he just started doing this “gimme candy” thing where people “buy” a banana, robot, or monkey and get to leave a little message with it - 10 at a time on the side column. It’s free money, where YOU get money, and I get a temporary monkey icon. Perhaps this would help you a bit because while I would pay $5 for a banana icon in a heartbeat, a subscription … hmmm, as much as I enjoy your talent …I’d have to think about it. Good Luck!

  9. Jason Wright Says:

Speaking of http://www.jonathancoulton.com, his rendition of Baby Got Back is amazing.

  10. card Says:

So, if I want to buy from Amazon, is there an easy-to-find link from your the home page? I had to come into this article to find it.

  11. Pay Attention Says:

“So next time you’re thinking of doing some Amazon shopping, come here first, click on any Amazon link anywhere on the site (almost every movie review has one), and THEN do your shopping.”

  12. Binky Says:

Yeah, yeah, almost every movie review has a link, but I am extraordinarily lazy, and like Card says, would love an easy link on the home page.

As incentive, I buy a high volume of stuff from Amazon.com for work. Give me my easy home page link and I’ll give you my purchases. (Aw, heck, I’ll try to give ‘em to you anyway when I remember, but I’m hoping you’ll do the link…)

  13. Binky Says:

In addition to the above: do you also get the kickback if I purchase used items from other sellers?

  14. Jeff J. Snider Says:

There is now a link in the main menu under “Buy Stuff” to shop on Amazon through Eric’s affiliate program.

  15. Binky Says:

Thank you, Jeff. I use it silly.

  16. Binky Says:

Or rather I WILL use it silly.

  17. card Says:

Yes, thanks for putting it in an intuitive spot, especially since I haven’t been reading the movie reviews lately, so I hadn’t noticed the Amazon links from there.
