The ‘In the Dark’ movie review PODCAST, long dreamed of, is now a reality

Hey! This bandwagon just pulled up outside my house, and I figured I might as well jump on it! At the bottom of this post is a link to the very first edition of the “In the Dark” movie review podcast!

That’s right, kids, a podcast, just like all the hipsters and fancy-pantses are doing. I’m still sorting out what the content of each Friday’s ‘cast will be, but essentially, it will be an audio version of “In the Dark,” with reviews of the new films and stuff like that.

This first one is 13 minutes long, and it feels too long to me. I’ll probably work on that in the future. (Since I don’t listen to any podcasts regularly, I truly don’t know what a good length is.) I might also try to get some guests with me now and then, just so my voice isn’t the only one you hear. Let me know if you have other ideas for what you think the “In the Dark” podcast should contain.

Click on the link below to listen to this week’s edition. Also, if you click on “‘In the Dark’ Podcast Feed” in the right-hand column of this page, that’s the URL that you can use to subscribe to it in iTunes.

(P.S. Will there someday soon be a podcast of “Snide Remarks,” too? You never know….)

UPDATE: We’ve fixed the problem with the file size. It was huge before, and now it is smaller. Also, it’s now hosted on EricDSnider.com instead of some anonymous third-party site. Not that it matters to you, but still.

Why do people feel like they have to apologize/equivocate when they finally get a cell phone, blog, MySpace account, podcast, etc.? Is that normal bell curve straggler behavior? You could video record your podcasts and simulcast them on YouTube as well. Or would that be too hip?

    :D

  2. braun Says:

I think you should sing one of your movie reviews. Unless you’ve already done that.

    *goes to listen*

  3. Ranee Says:

    Hooray! Hooray for this!

  4. ElwoodCity Says:

A little rambling, but overall, a good listen. I think guests would be a good idea. You could involve some of your reviewer friends, or your fat brother. I look forward to next week.

  5. Philip Says:

I really like it! I’ve subscribed and look forward to more. Good length for a once-a-week program.
I noticed the filesize is quite large considering the 13 minute length; you could save some bandwidth by downconverting the MP3 to 64k mono. I tried it and it sounds good!

  6. AdamOndi Says:

The length of a podcast is something that cannot be standardized. Speaking as one who listens to several podcasts of radically varying lengths, each one must be judged on its own merits. A podcast is only too long if the podcaster runs out of interesting things to say, or if listeners start raining down hate emails on the podcaster for being boring or long-winded, etc.

So I say don’t make a decision on the length yet. Do it for a few weeks at different lengths, and see what sounds/feels/is good.

  7. Bridget Says:

I loved it. It was just the right length - I could have listened for a while longer, even (though like Philip, I noticed that the file size was unseemly large).

My baby daughter, bizarrely, started crying at the sound of your voice.

  8. card Says:

I agree with AdamOndi about the length and think that it’s okay if it’s sometimes longer than normal.

    Yay for podcasts!

  9. Spencer Says:

I like it! That was cool!

(FYI, I didn’t like it enough to pay for it.)

Things that I like enough to pay for:
    1. Adequate housing accommodations
    2. Essential food items
    3. Modest medical expenses
    4. A 50″ dlp HDTV

  10. Lindsay Says:

i like the podcast but you need a signature signoff of your own

  11. William Goss Says:

This week, on a very special “In The Dark”…

The Cookie Monster does his variation of the Turistas trailer narration.

  12. Strude Says:

That was awesome. I really enjoyed that.

  13. Amanda Says:

At fisrt I thought your voice was somebody (like the movie trailer guy) announcing you. For some reason I expected you to have a very feminine voice - I don’t know why.

  14. Bozo Reeks Says:

LOL, “who doesn’t like torture? Communists!”

  15. Sara without the H Says:

    I love the podcast!

I have these kids that like follow me around for some reason. Would you recommend me listening to your program when they are not around, or is your show pretty safe for young ears?
