Anyone else notice the preponderance of really, really horrible names children are being given these days? I mean, Delanee? Eden? Asia? (I realize that one's been around a while, but still.) Kayleigh? There appears to be a direct correlation between the dumbness of your kid and the dumbness of her name. The only problem with that is that there are some perfectly normal names in there, too. So I guess my theory is worthless.

Thank you for allowing me to waste your time, Eric, as you have wasted ours.

Wow, these just break my heart. I mean, on the one hand they are a good laugh. So good in fact that I read all the back entries. On the other, the recurring theme of these kids' hunger for contact from her, the validation it would give, just scares me.

We're told that one of the best ways to keep our children on the straight and narrow, free from the lures and temptations of the world, is to give them a strong family identity. How many kids here are you hearing from who just don't have that, but are so hungry for it that they've gone looking for it from a celebrity via the internet?

Some aspects, really really fundamental ones, are so broken...

David, you could make me feel much more hopeful if you just claim all of these e-mails. If this is our future, I fear the day we retire and leave the world to these children. Apparently, "No Child Left Behind" and the standardized tests that were supposed to ensure that all of our children received a meaningful, Federally-subsidized education have followed the path of other government programs. I remember working on a defense contract and we had an important part that failed a stress test. This was at a time when it would have been very expensive to change anything. So our subcontractor said we needed to modify the test requirements to fit our data. Our government customer agreed, we modified the criteria, and that part is now fielded with the system.

I think that the
"teacher" email was sent by someone just playing along. One of my Raven emails is on this site--I won't say which one...

You do realize that this e-mail address has been posted all over the web now on her fan sites and such, right? So, just because someone gets this address, doesn't mean that they've actually even been to Eric's site. Yes, it has progressed that far.

I'm concerned that a teacher...someone who teaches our children (not that I have any) thought this e-mail address was real. These are always some of my favorite blog entries. I don't care if Katherine is someone playing along or not, that was just funny.

I'm slightly (SLIGHTLY) sympathetic to the kids who email. After all, I expect children to be clueless. But the one from the teacher is great. It fills my soul with warm fuzzies to know that such a person is guiding the education of the growing generation. It also explains a lot.
