I'm reminded of the watergun idea that was kicked around here a few months ago. Taking a watergun into the theater to squirt Audible Reactors (or talkers in general) is, I think, a fine idea.

I spend a lot of time at the cinema, but I've never actually experienced an Audible Reactor until yesterday when I saw Amazing Grace.

The offender was an old lady, who was there with another old lady. Now, the non-reactor clearly had some "gnarled, useless ears" on her, because her audible friend had to repeat everything she said to her, which unfortunately included her reactions. So here is a choice selection from the screening (apologies for any slight spoilers):

"That's got rid of him then" - during the Subway advert before the film started.

"He doesn't look well" - the first time we see Wilberforce.

"Did you see that - how horrid" - the appearance of a slave girl in chains.

"He looks old" - unsurprisingly, when Wilberforce is older.

"How beautiful, my grandson plays the bagpipes" - during the final scene.

Not only was the cinema packed, so I couldn't move, I was the only person in there who wasn't drawing a pension. So imagine the dentures that would be hurled at me if I'd told her to shut it. And shooshing people doesn't work if they're either deaf or talking so much they can't hear anything else.

I remember when that cannibal thing was in the news. I can't imagine wanting to see a movie about it; just reading the scant details in the news report was chilling enough. From my understanding, the guy being eaten was dying, but maybe I'm misremembering. Either way, this world is a sick, sick place, especially given that somebody made a movie about it.

The only times I've ever liked Adam Sandler were in his non-Adam Sandler movies, the movies where he didn't have a creative hand in their making: Punch-Drunk Love and Spanglish. The only thing he did was act, and none of the usual Sandler Movie trademarks were there (Dennis Dugan or Peter Segal directing, featuring cameos by Rob Schneider, poop jokes, etc). No surprise that Adam Sandler Fans disliked both movies.

I liked him in "Happy Gilmore" (I never saw "The Water Boy") ... and, um, that's it. Seriously, that guy and his followers (only the raucous morons though, everyone else is fine) annoy me. (I try to think of Adam Sandler fanatics as being ranked one class higher than L**** the C**** Guy fanatics.)

Eric, I still can't accept that you don't like Adam Sandler. I don't even like movies, but I've loved most of his that I've seen. It's almost like you and I are two different people or something.
