Aw, don't feel bad! You didn't "make" me respond. You weren't even talking to me! I just saw your question and knew the answer and, well, I like to be helpful sometimes. SOMETIMES.

Dang, now I went and made Eric post to his own site. Right after he told us not to. I feel honored yet ashamed at the same time.

Lest you be tempted again, you did clear up all (well most) of my confusion. Thanks!

I can clear up your confusion, or at least some of it.

The book "Deathly Hallows" comes out July 21, not July 25. It's always been July 21.

The movie "Order of the Phoenix" was never going to be released July 21. It was originally scheduled for July 13. But then they moved it up to July 11, and they apparently didn't bother to fix the trailers that had already been sent out to theaters.

Does anyone know why the Alleged Opening Day for Harry Potter Order of the Phoenix keeps changing? I think first it was July 21 ('cuz Deathly Hallows is July 25!!), then I saw a trailer for it on tv a couple of weeks ago and it was July 11, then I took my niece to Nancy Drew (her choice, not mine but not too bad for the female tween crowd, I could think of worse) and the trailer in the theater said July 13. What gives?!?

What, only Eric can be a critic? Yeah, okay, I guess it is HIS site. But seriously, what's the deal with Order? I planned my vacation so it wouldn't conflict with the Alleged Opening Day!!!

Excellent point, Jason. If a movie opens on the most screens ever & ticket prices are the most expensive ever, then how meaningful is it when it has the highest-grossing opening weekend ever? Not very.

I don't see how just barely breaking old records for making the most money is an accomplishment anymore. Most of that is because:
A) There are more movie theaters.
B) Ticket prices are going up.
The theater that I frequent most has raised prices $2 per ticket in the last year. I know of other theaters that have raised their prices even more. The movies are still selling out the same that movies with previous records would in current situations.

It's gotten to the point where I don't even care how much money a movie makes on its opening weekend, even if it breaks the record for BIGGEST OPENING WEEKEND EVER! I know that another movie will break its record the next year. And the next... and the next...

I know I feel special when I go to midnight screenings. ;) Actually, the reason I love midnight screenings so much is, quite simply, there are no children and I'm surrounded almost exclusively by movies fans, and it's just so much nicer. The only time I can ever go to an evening screening and remember what it was like to go to movies before the advent of cell phones and iPods.

And I get the feeling they use 10pm Thursday night screenings for the longer movies: I've only ever seen them for Superman Returns, Pirates of the Caribbean, and others pushing past the 2.5-hour mark.
