Surveys! Don’t you love surveys?!

Here at EricDSnider.com, we’re able to measure site traffic and page views and stuff like that, but we want to know more. MORE! So I’ve devised a few surveys to help me gauge who you people are and what you’re doing here. This will give us a better idea of what we need to change about the site’s features and what we need to emphasize more.

There are three surveys, each with around 10-15 easy questions. It won’t take you more than a couple minutes, and it will give us very, very valuable input on the site. Please take a few moments and fill out whichever surveys apply to you — possibly all three — won’t you?

EricDSnider.com reader survey: This is for all people who visit the site. If you’re reading this, that means you visit the site. So please take the survey!

“In the Dark” newsletter subscriber survey: This is ONLY for people who subscribe to “In the Dark,” the weekly e-mail newsletter containing movie reviews. (If you don’t subscribe to “In the Dark,” well, why not? Actually, never mind, that’s one of the questions in the first survey.)

“In the Dark” podcast listener survey: This is ONLY for people who listen to the “In the Dark” podcast, whether by subscribing via iTunes (or some such) or by listening to it directly here on the site. In fact, one of the reasons we’re doing the survey is to figure out how many listeners there are. You would think iTunes would tell you how many subscribers you have, but you would be wrong. I honestly have no idea how many people listen to the podcast. By filling out the survey, you will be counted!

“In The Dark” is the only movie review newsletter I read, at least regularly. So far it has never steered me wrong. It’s been very helpful, especially considering that I was never a huge movie watcher until I married into this wonderful family of (nerds) avid movie fanatics.
My favorite part of every review is, quite honestly, the bashing- because it is sincere, intelligent bashing and not just some bored moron with a mouthful of popcorn blithering “this sucks cuz I say it sucks.” I want to know just how badly it sucks, what makes it suck, and if the reviews make me laugh, I’ll read them again and again. Like the review of “September Dawn.” That one was my all- time favorite.
Of course, without “In The Dark,” I probably never would have heard about “Little Miss Sunshine,” one of the most brilliant movies ever filmed, in my humble opinion.

Okay, I did your survey…..what did I win?

  3. Melissa Says:

Eric!! I work for an online survey-programming company. Survey Monkey – for shame!

Yes, that’s very helpful information, two days ago. ;-)

Anyway, Survey Monkey is a Portland company. Think locally, survey globally. Or something.

  5. Rice Says:

We don’t get anything? That’s depressing.

  6. Jennifer Says:

So are we going to hear about the results too? I’d like to know where I fit with the average Snider fan.

  7. Nate the Great Says:

I Second that. I’d like to see the geographic and demographic breakdown of Eric D. Snider’s fans. Am I alone in Southern Arizona, or are there other Sniderites lurking in the shadows (of which we have few because we have no trees, just cacti).

  8. Jane Says:

Should we take the podcast survey if we’re an infrequent listener, or do you want to hear only from people who subscribe through iTunes or listen pretty much every week?

  9. Matt Says:

Hey Nate, we can form the S, Arizona chapter of the fanclub.

Re: podcast stats. “one of the reasons we’re doing the survey is to figure out how many listeners there are.”

Use FeedBurner ( http://www.feedburner.com ) as an intermediate for your RSS feed url. The basic/free service allows you to track number of subscriptions, number of attachment downloads, and some other stat info. For a fee, they’ll give you all kinds of specific metrics.

Then you give iTunes your feedburner-provided URL for the feed. You can link your feedburner-provided url to a non-iTunes RSS link on your site, etc.

I use this system for my own podcast, and the free service works good enough for my purposes, and works well.
