These people have no right to critique Eric's movie reviews since they're obviously not fans of his writing in the first place.

One of my favorite things about the old Snide Remarks columns was reading the angry letters and Eric's commentary on those angry letter. Hence, when Eric began charging money for Snide Remarks, I was disappointed. If the only people who read his work were people who knew his work well enough to want to pay for it, then we would suffer a scarcity of angry letters.

So, hooray for the return of free Snide Remarks, blog posts, and the comments function! It has made life worth living once again.

On the topic of Tyler Perry:

Eric has given Tyler Perry's work pretty low scores, and to every review there are always comments saying "You're white, so you don't get it." At first I dismissed these commenters as looking for any excuse why Eric's reviews would wrong (For example SATC: You're a guy), but this same comment kept being repeated. Even Orson Scott Card, famed SciFi author ("Enders Game" for example) claimed it was a racial thing:

" I know there are plenty of white folks who would absolutely love this movie -- but who probably won't go because it makes them uncomfortable to be the only white people in a huge, enthusiastic crowd of blacks."

So I started to think "Maybe it is a racial thing. Maybe because I'm white there is something I'm missing, some great truth that my up-bringing has blinded me to."

Then I saw an advertisement for the TV show "Tyler Perry's House of Payne." A relatively fit looking person mocking a relatively fat looking person tells him he looks like a parade balloon, and the laugh track explodes.

A fat joke? You are launching a national TV show, and to advertise this show, this family centered, christen based break through TV show, you make a fat joke? And not even a good fat joke (http://tinyurl.com/69lw3d).

No, I'm not buying the "you're white" excuse any more. The dude just isn't' funny.

I'm wondering if the quotation marks abuser lives in the New England area. The use of non-ironic quotation marks for emphasis seems particular to the northern New England area, especially around New Hampshire. I once received a brochure for a Symphony Orchestra that announced:

CELEBRATING 25 YEARS OF "LIVE" MUSIC

I was really confused. Was I supposed to dubious of the word "live" in this case? Was this some sort of symphonic equivalent of Milli Vanilli where the orchestra is not really playing their instruments?

I've noticed that people who misuse quotation marks this way also tend to incorrectly use the negative form of the verb "to do" when it follows the word "so" in a sentence (i.e. "He thought that movie was great and so didn't I"), but that's a subject for a different day.

Neil: the show was pretty bad. I saw it when I was about seven and even then I thought it was stupid. Anime made since Speed Racer has been trying to distance itself.

On the plus side, it could also be seen as "so bad it's good", especially with the awesomely terrible dubbing.

"Meanwhile, a secret meeting was being held secretly".

I haven't seen the movie, though.

Definitely one of the most "frighting post's" ever relating to the topic of idiotic comments. I had to go make an appointment with my gynecologist right after reading it.

Although you very rarely (as far as I know) get angry e-mails about Snide Remarks anymore, it is very nice to be able to read dumb comments (which many times are also angry) from fools who are not regular visitors of the site. If these one-time commenters were from Provo they would make it a priority to visit the site every day and voice their displeasure over everything you write.

Regarding the second Speed Racer comment, this is the 60s we're talking about. I haven't watched to verify, but it is within the realm of possibility that Speed Racer was just a pile of crap being filmed. Maybe a pile of crap that moved really fast.

I haven't seen it and I don't know anybody who has, so I can't deny the man his theory.
