Eric’s Bad Movies: ‘Mac and Me’ (1988)
As someone immediately guessed last week, today’s edition of Eric’s Bad Movies at Film.com features “Mac and Me,” an extended McDonald’s/Coke/Skittles commercial from 1988. My devoted editor has gone to the trouble of adding YouTube clips of the movie’s two high points — boy in wheelchair falls off cliff; alien in teddy bear costume dances at McDonald’s — and I highly recommend them to you.
This is Eric’s Bad Movies #25, by the way. Can you believe it’s been almost six months since we started? Seems like only yesterday.
As for next week: I’m not 100 percent sure yet, but if I go with the title I’m thinking of, it will be the oldest film yet covered in Eric’s Bad Movies. (Here are the archives for reference.) Some of its actors were Grammy-winning singers. The film was a remake.

First I thought of “Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band” (The Bee Gees), but I’m pretty sure that wasn’t a remake. My guess is the remake of “A`Star Is Born”.

The Wiz

Yea, I guess the Wiz, too. True story, when I was in Elementrary school, we would watch a movie as a treat on the last day of the year. Usually it was The Sound of Music, but one year they showed the Wiz instead. I have no idea why. The next year, no movie.

Very funny, as usual, Eric (ERIC! ERIC! OH NO! OH MY GOSH! ERIC!)
I love that the idea that McDonald’s is perfectly happy to have bad break dancer’s take over their parking lots. Did all of the guests except Eric’s family walk over there? Did anyone else feel a bit disturbed when the aliens arms extended across the table?

Is it The Wiz? Or is it The Jazz Singer?

I would say Catalina Caper, but, yes, the wiz makes the most sense.

Cannonball Run? (Did Dean Martin and Sammy Davis Jr. win Grammys?)

The Wiz fits best, but I’m holding out for the Apple, which is easily worse (I mean, during the premier, the audience threw their FREE copies of the soundtrack at the screen) or possibly Xanadu.
But if its The Wiz, at least we’ll get to hear some snarky comments about Michael Jackson!

My first thought was “A Star is Born”, but it probably is “The Wiz” because that movie was terrible!

I haven’t seen “A Star is Born”. It may also be terrible. Barbra Streisand’s hair in the movie is terrible.

Hey people, comment on the actual article on Film.com – not here!

Someone stated it above, and I have to agree: it’s gotta be The Jazz Singer.

At least “Mac and Me” was better than “Pod People.”
