One of my wife and my favorite parts about sundance has been to get home from the festival, and read your funny take on the movies and the things that ensue, whether it be about a fellow (lesser and more stupid) critic or your daily trip to Burger King. If there is no diary, it will be missed.

I hope that you get to eat somewhere besides Burger King this year. Maybe those of us who live in Utah should coordinate Relief Society-style to bring you meals in tupperware that we don't need back.

I'll be bummed if there's no Sundance Diary this year, I was getting excited knowing it was coming up soon! Maybe if you can't do a full-day recap you can at least share a few interesting tidbits from each day?

Hank: Well, it's like any other trade organization. You apply because you want to be part of a group of colleagues for camaraderie, professional advice, shared experiences, etc. As far as tangible benefits, OFCS members get DVD "for your consideration" screeners from the studios at the end of the year, which is handy at awards season. We don't recruit members, though -- there's an application process, and the idea is to limit it to the cream of the crop, so that saying you're part of the Online Film Critics Society really means something.

As for the other question, it's the other way around. We hope people who aren't members but who are interested in the world of film and film criticism will see that our site has content that appeals to them. For a long time our site has generally been of interest to OFCS members only, and we're trying to get the word out that that's changing.

So I’m a bit unclear on the purpose of this organization. Say I’m an online film critic. . .what advantage would there be for me to join? Also, doesn’t “trying to increase the group’s relevance in the lives of people who aren’t film critics” basically translate to “we want more hits on our website?”
