The point is, my favorite thing about a film festival is hanging out with the gang. It was a great week. Thanks, Austin! #sxsw
And people I met for the first time! @coleabaius! @landon_speaks! @death2themovies! Others! I don’t want to overlook anyone!
More SXSW thanks to my pals @scotteweinberg, @eugenenovikov, @rejects, @drewathitfix, @williambgoss, @jamesrocchi for general awesomeness.
Special SXSW thanks to @BriguySalisbury, his lovely wife @peregrine19, and their houseboy @ldmullen for their hospitality this week.
I’m of no use to you this week on the wide releases, as all three of them screened while I was at South By Southwest. But one of them is “The Bounty Hunter,” which is surely terrible, so you don’t need my help there. The others, “Repo Men” and “Diary of a Wimpy Kid,” have gotten mixed reviews from my colleagues.
In limited release, you’ll find “The Runaways,” a by-the-number rock biopic about the ’70s all-girl rock group. Dakota Fanning and Kristen Stewart are the stars. There’s also “Mother” (review at Cinematical), a terrific Korean mystery-thriller about a woman trying to clear her son’s name after he’s arrested for murder.
SXSW was a lot of fun, as always, though more crowded this year than ever before, and not just because all the movie bloggers have gotten fatter. I’ll have more reports on the movies in the next few days. In the meantime, congratulations to my brother Lane for somehow getting married today, to a lady! Here is a photo proving it!
