Friday movie roundup – May 14
Saturday, May 15th, 2010It has come to my attention that I forgot to do this on Friday. Huh. Better late than never, that’s what I always say, when I’m late.
Maybe I forgot because none of the week’s movies are worth talking about. “Robin Hood” is dull and joyless. “Just Wright” (review at Film.com) is well-meaning but sloppy. “Letters to Juliet” is contrived and generic. (But what if Juliet wrote a newspaper advice column for the lovelorn? Just imagine!)
In limited release, there’s “The Swimsuit Issue,” a moderately entertaining Swedish comedy about a group of ordinary men who form a synchronized-swimming team. It belongs to the “Full Monty” genre of Europeans Doing Quaint Things.
At Cinematical, my latest Cinemaligion column is about Monty Python’s “Life of Brian.”
Don’t forget, you can subscribe to the “In the Dark” e-mail to have the week’s reviews, DVD releases, and more all up in your inbox each Friday. And Fridays at 11 a.m. (Pacific), you can listen live to “Movie B.S. with Bayer and Snider” on PDX.fm, or subscribe to the podcast.
