Friday movie roundup – Oct. 21

roundup

A few good options out there (and on VOD), along with many mediocre ones.

“The Accountant” (R) B
“Christine” (R) B+
— “In a Valley of Violence” (R) B- [Vanity Fair]
“Jack Reacher: Never Go Back” (PG-13) C
“Keeping Up with the Joneses” (PG-13) C+
“Kevin Hart: What Now?” (R) B-
“Max Steel” (PG-13) C
“Middle School: The Worst Years of My Life” (PG) B-

“Ouija: Origin of Evil” did screen for critics, but it was at the same time as “Jack Reacher: Never Go Back,” due to a long-standing pissing match between Universal and Paramount that most local publicists can’t (or won’t) fix. Usually when there are conflicts I see the one that was on the schedule first, but in this case I figured people would want a “Jack Reacher” review before they wanted one for “Ouija.” I’ll catch it soon.

We reviewed most of the above on Movie B.S. last week and this week, along with “Certain Women” (B).

Elsewhere, I wrote about “The Secret of NIMH” and “The Last House on the Left” for Mental Floss.
