Thirst-quenching new ‘Snide Remarks’ perfect for a summer day

Monday, June 30th, 2008

I’m back from my travels, and “Snide Remarks” is back with me. (I took it along as a sidekick.) This week’s edition, “A Good Sense of Rumor,” pertains to celebrities, and in particular the mocking of them.

Speaking of celebs, you might be interested in this post I wrote for Cinematical during the CineVegas Film Festival, in which Britney Spears and I attended the same party. OMG is right!

Generic blog headline for ‘Snide Remarks’

Sunday, June 8th, 2008

Just drove from Portland down to my brother’s house in Stepford, Utah (which the signs call Eagle Mountain, but they’re not fooling anyone). He just mentioned how annoying it is when writers leave “I” off the front of their sentences. Thought I’d try it. Am annoyed by it too. Anyway, the point is, I’m tired from all that driving, so this entry will be purely functional.

This week’s “Snide Remarks” is entitled “Art Depreciation.” There will be no column the next two Mondays because I’m travelin’. A few days in Utah, then down to the CineVegas Film Festival, then down to California to give my parents a thrill. Everything else should be business as usual, just no “Snide Remarks.” So enjoy this one, and savor it for the next couple weeks.

Monday stuff: ‘Snide Remarks,’ a late review, a birthday greeting

Monday, June 2nd, 2008

Hoo boy, if you read this week’s “Snide Remarks,” entitled “YM I So Tired?,” you’re definitely gonna wind up with a song stuck in your head. Just so you know.

Also of note: I saw “The Strangers” over the weekend, and it’s actually pretty scary. Weird, huh?

Also of note, too: Are you my Fat Brother Jeff? If so, then happy birthday! In fact, let’s all wish Jeff a happy birthday! He handles the technical side of this website, and he does it for almost no money. Of course, I handle the creative side of this website, and I do that for almost no money, too. But it’s not my birthday, so who cares? Happy birthday, JJ!

This week’s ‘Snide Remarks’ requires ears

Monday, May 19th, 2008

This week’s “Snide Remarks” is a first: It’s an all-audio edition! It’s an interview with Indiana Jones, in conjunction with his new film that comes out on Thursday. I hope you appreciate what a coup it was getting him!

Pregnant men are addressed in ‘Snide Remarks’

Monday, May 12th, 2008

My trip to New York was fun, thank you very much for asking! I’m back now, and “Snide Remarks” is back, though it has nothing to do with New York. (That will come later, surely.) Today’s edition is entitled “Brovaries, Duderus, Sirvix, Vaguyna, and Fellow-pian Tubes: A Guide to Male Pregnancy,” and it’s about that “man” who’s pregnant. He was on Oprah and everything.

A friend of mine said he wanted to subscribe to the “Snide Remarks” podcast but didn’t know how to do it with iTunes. I realized I didn’t know either, since I, um, don’t subscribe to any podcasts. (Just not my thing.) So here’s how you do it, in case anyone else didn’t know: In iTunes, one of the drop-down menus is “Advanced,” and under that is an option that says “Subscribe to Podcast.” Select that, then paste in the URL for the podcast’s feed — which for “Snide Remarks” is http://www.ericdsnider.com/blog/?feed=rss2&cat=25. (There’s always a link to it at the end of these “Snide Remarks” blog entries, too.) And there you go.

Some of you are rolling your eyes, but I guarantee my friend was not the only regular reader of this site who didn’t know how to do it. And yeah, five seconds of searching in iTunes’ “Help” menu would reveal the answer, but I’ve found that a lot of people would rather go without whatever it is they’re trying to do than spend five seconds figuring out how to do it.

‘Snide Remarks’ podcast fix

The link that triggers people’s iTunes podcast-gathering mechanism was wrong earlier…. Here’s the right one…. You can ignore this post.

Let ‘Snide Remarks’ chase away the Monday blues

Monday, April 28th, 2008

Got a case of the Mondays? I know I do! I have to watch “Made of Honor” tonight, and you know how I feel about pun titles.

Speaking of how much I hate pun titles, this week’s “Snide Remarks” is called “Between Barack and a Hard Place,” and while this makes at least two weeks in a row that “Snide Remarks” has dealt with politics, I promise I won’t write about politics next week. (That’s an easy promise to make, because I’m not writing one next week, because I’ll be in New York. So there.) I don’t like to write about anything twice in a row, but I think you’ll agree that today’s column’s primary subject matter really needed to be addressed

Your Monday delivery of ‘Snide Remarks’

Monday, April 21st, 2008

Treadmills, border fences, and bilingualism are among the topics discussed in this week’s edition of “Snide Remarks,” which has the horrible title of “Defence Is De Answer.” Seriously, that’s one of the worst yet.

In other news, we switched to a new server this weekend, almost living up to the promise of no downtime in the process. There are a few kinks in the system — for example, I can’t send any e-mail from my EricDSnider.com account — but that’s none of your concern.

If you find you can’t post comments on the site, that’s because the new host is still propagating, and your ISP is still accessing the old location, and — OK, it’s complicated. But comments should be enabled for some of you, not enabled for others of you, and enabled for one and all within 24 hours or so.

Finally, this is the last week to take the surveys and help us make EricDSnider.com a better place. I really appreciate all the feedback we’ve gotten so far. Some of the comments have had some really good ideas that I’m definitely going to implement and take credit for. There are three surveys; take any or all that apply to you. This one is for all visitors to the site; this one is for “In the Dark” newsletter subscribers; and this one is for “In the Dark” podcast listeners.

‘Snide Remarks’ + Olympics = jokes about China

Monday, April 14th, 2008

Did you hear they’re having the Olympics this year? And that they’re in China? Well, then you have the background necessary to understand this week’s “Snide Remarks,” entitled “The China Monologues.”

And did you hear I’m conducting some surveys? Well I am! Many of you have responded already and have given some excellent feedback. There have been about a dozen times so far where I’ve read a comment and thought, “Wow, that’s a really good suggestion. Why didn’t I think of that before?” So thank you for your input.

If you haven’t done the surveys yet, won’t you? Please? This one is for all visitors to EricDSnider.com (that means you!); this one is for “In the Dark” subscribers; and this one is for “In the Dark” podcast listeners, whether they subscribe via iTunes or just listen to it here on the site every Friday. If all three surveys apply to you, feel free to take ‘em all. And hey, thanks!
