Anniversary

Dr. Katz: Professional Therapist - 515

Episode #60

"Anniversary"

Season 5: 10/12/98

Katz's wedding anniversary is approaching, so Ben wants to do something for him. He asks Laura if she wants to get a gift ("Like a terrarium," he says), something that symbolizes the failure of his marriage ("A picture of you?" Laura suggests). Katz tells Ben if it weren't for him, Roz would have left sooner: "She wanted to wait until you got home from school first." Katz says it's his 25th anniversary -- but Ben is 25 years old. Ben calls Laura, concerned that if Jon and Roz HAD to get married, and if this was during the "sexual revolution," then perhaps they were both sleeping with OTHER people, and perhaps Katz isn't Ben's father. "Maybe my dad's not even my father," he says. "Maybe that means I don't ever even have to talk to you," Laura replies. He discusses it with his dad, and finds out he mis-spoke earlier -- it's actually his 26th wedding anniversary. (Ben: "So I'm not a bastard?" Katz: "I didn't say that.") They have pizza and beer to celebrate the anniversary, and Katz has to see a man about a horse. At the bar, Julie asks Katz, "Did you guys have an ugly divorce?" Katz says, "She was." NOTE: This is the first episode ever to begin with Ben already on the phone with Laura.

  • Dom Irrera: Mocks Katz's use of the phrase "per se"; strips for Katz; worries he has a fever (98.7), or that he has a "loose heart"; was watching Dan Rather on the news and was playing with himself, twisting his scrotum around; hates pranks, like when people come up and hit you in the back of the head just for fun; sits on Katz's lap; talks about the 26 1/2-inch midget who cooks by standing in the pot and stirring; sings about Katz over the closing credits, after demanding Katz change "the music."
  • Bonnie McFarlane: From Canada, way up in the northern part; thrift stores don't work in small towns ("Hey, that's my dead mom's blouse!"); 80 percent of women think they can overtake an attacker; would like to have multiple personality disorder ("Don't know French? That's OK, Natalie does!"); Mira Sorvino knows 11 languages, but when you get into that many languages, "there's a lot of cross-over"; every 15 seconds, a woman is being accused of having an eating disorder; has a lousy apartment -- if she ever brings someone home, she'll have to say, "Oh my gosh, I've been robbed."
