Day Planner

Dr. Katz: Professional Therapist - 307

Episode #26

"Day Planner"

Season 3: 1/12/97

Katz got practically no sleep because the air conditioner "shimmies" and keeps him awake. He asks Ben to fix it. Then, at work, Katz realizes he's forgotten his day planner and asks Ben to find it. Ben, naturally, is lazy about the whole thing, but he tells Laura, "When I start a job, I don't stop until I fail." He succeeds in fixing the shimmying air conditioner, but can't find the day planner. Katz laments the loss with Julie and Stan, as the planner contained a wealth of information, ("You didn't talk about the thing in Jersey....?" Stan asks cautiously), including the first two chapters of a new self-help book (his last one was called "How to Hurt Your Own Feelings"). Finally, Ben remembers having seen the day planner at some point in the day, and they re-trace his steps ("That shouldn't be hard. I didn't take a lot of steps"). Turns out Ben wedged the day planner under the air conditioner to make it stop shimmying. "We've all wedged something in between something without realizing what it was," says Katz.

  • Rodney Dangerfield: Wants to leave as soon as he gets there; wants to know how much he gets paid ("You get paid in mental health," says Katz); wakes up with a big Heaviness on top of him; tells lots of his typical Rodney Dangerfield one-liners that aren't very funny.
  • Jake Johannsen: Girlfriend loves him, but he knows if she could find a guy just like him, except vegetarian, she'd take him instead; he probably wouldn't eat his cat ("It depends on the sauce"), but his cat would probably eat him; changes his mind and decides he WOULD eat his cat; his kids will just want his money when he's dead; women have better organizations to govern the men, whereas when men get together, it's drunkenness and "put the hat on the dog again!"; admires people with tattoos because at least they THOUGHT they knew what they were doing.
  • Fred Stoller: Doesn't have an appointment today, but shows up and interrupts Rodney's session; asks Laura: "Do you find my flakiness attractive."
