Electric Bike

Dr. Katz: Professional Therapist - 402

Episode #35

"Electric Bike"

Season 4: 6/29/97

Katz buys an electric bicycle as compensation for not getting many birthday presents as a kid. Naturally, Ben mocks him ("I know you have your own agenda. I just think it's stupid"), in addition to using the bike to try to impress Laura -- he tells her she can be his "biker chick" (she declines). Ben takes the bike out on the streets, where he breaks it. ("It doesn't do well on sets of stairs," he tells his dad.) The motor breaks off. "You don't mean it literally breaks off?" Katz asks. "Hypothetically it would, and literally it did" is the reply. In the meantime, Laura uses the label-maker for frivolous purposes. (Katz: "You can't label everything." Laura: "I can try.")

  • Ray Romano: Friend brought his fiancee over to watch the football game; she and Ray's wife had that "Let's play Pictionary" look on their faces; guys gather around TV sets at the mall when shopping with their wives; no matter what size you ask for, orange juice at restaurants is always tiny ("a thimble of juice"); shower is never just right except for a few seconds when it's on the way to being wrong; he's the Noise Checker and Bug Killer at his house.
  • Dave Chappelle: He's a "racism connoisseur"; racism in the South is "magnifique"; wonders why anyone would want to be Aquaman, where your only real power is being able to talk to fish ("What the hell would you want to say to a fish?"); mocks Wonder Woman's truth-enforcing lasso; Batman would never go to a housing project ("Robin -- didn't we park the car right here?"); was on a hijacked plane but wasn't worried because no one has ever taken a black hostage.
