Glasses

Dr. Katz: Professional Therapist - 203

Episode #9

"Glasses"

Season 2: 1995

Katz gets glasses, although he doesn't think he needs them. He points out the irony in a store whose job it is to sell you glasses telling you after an examination that you need glasses. He makes Laura help him look at an eye chart ("I'll do it, but it makes me feel kind of dirty"), which he wrote himself. Julie laughs when she sees him in his glasses, and Stanley is no help either. He stops wearing the glasses, after Ben thinks it would be funny to move the furniture around to mess him up. ("What's so funny about growing old?" he asks Ben. "Memory loss? The way they walk?" is Ben's reply.) Katz misreads "Jaws" as "Jews" in the TV Guide (and gets the year wrong, too -- he says 1972, but "Jaws" came out in 1975).

  • Dom Irrera: Can't sleep on airplanes because no one will cuddle with him; wonders why guys never tell each other they're good-looking, or dance together ("Spin me like the little girl you know I am"); wants to drink during therapy; doesn't think "I'm big-boned" is a good excuse for being fat ("Yeah, that's a big bone you've got in your butt there").
  • Emo Phillips: Heard a guy calling him a paranoid freak by tapping it out in Morse Code; ran into Jimmy Peterson from the third grade, only Jimmy was still a little kid; has big ugly aunts who try to kiss you -- "but whenyou try to go further...!"; nosy mom went through his socks and underwear ("It tickled"); used to think the brain was the most fascinating part of the body, until he realized what was telling him that; asked if he knows the music means, he thinks it's time for the "Peanuts" special.
