Miles Away
Dr. Katz: Professional Therapist - 508
Episode #54
"Miles Away"
Season 5: 8/10/98
Ben's goes to visit his cousin Sarah, in an unnamed city, from whom he once stole money when he was 6 ("It was over a dollar," he says as he worries whether she's still upset). Katz gives him tips on being a good guest, including "Don't show her yours unless she shows you hers first." He misses his first flight due to his fear of planes, but eventually makes it there (the in-flight movie: "Love Strings," which seems to be a running joke of some kind now) and winds up spending the whole time in her apartment while she's at work or hanging out with friends. With him gone, Laura feels a sense of peace. (Katz: "I wish I could share in your enthusiasm." Laura: "You can!") Katz misses him -- "He's the only guy I can tell anything to and I know he won't be listening." He comes home a day early, mainly because Sarah's ignoring him. "I learned a lot about what it's like to busy." Also in this episode, Stan's booger is briefly discussed in the bar.
- Mitch Fatel: Talks almost entirely about sex: men have a sexual thought every 11 seconds, with no thoughts in between; he's great in bed and is constantly asking questions to make sure his performance is satisfactory ("Would you recommend me to a friend?"); better when the girl breaks up with the guy because it's over in five minutes (the guy just says, "You suck!"), whereas if the guy does the breaking, it takes all day -- "there's questioning and witnesses and forms to fill out"; hard to satisfy a woman in bed because "there are more parts down there than on a 10-speed bike"; wants to be famous so he can participate in an orgy; doesn't know where he stands on the gay issue, and basically just agrees with whoever he's talking to about it.
- Patton Oswalt: Stand-up comedy is good because whatever mood you're in, you can make that funny, whereas with other jobs, you have to be in a certain mood; used to write for a sketch comedy show (our sources tell us it was Fox's "Mad TV"); network people are jittery -- "This Adolf Hitler sketch is funny, but can he not be so anti-Semitic?"; calls all alcoholic beverages "pain-go-bye-bye juice"; discusses the Paas Easter egg dye kit, and how it has withstood all competition and come out on top without ever changing its format; one competitor allowed you to make the eggs glittery, "like it came out of David Bowie's a**"; imagines Paas owner as an crusty old man: "I knew they'd come crawling back. Happy Easter and go to hell, we're not changing!"; wants to get drunk and attack a midget village.
