Mourning Person

Dr. Katz: Professional Therapist - 308

Episode #28

"Mourning Person"

Season 3: 1/26/97

92-year-old Aunt Estelle (wife of Uncle Morty) dies, and Katz is asked to give the eulogy. We learn that Katz generally laughs upon hearing of someone's death. He keeps making the joke "I'm not a mourning person," but no one finds it funny (although Ben claims credit for writing it). Katz tries to buy a suit and is told "you're a portly gentleman," which upsets him. He gives the eulogy (Ben: "Can't hear in back!"), but gets the giggles (Ben: "Mayday! Mayday!").

  • Andy Kindler: Asks Laura if Katz would ever invite him to a party; also wants to know if he can send Katz a birthday present; annoyed by rock bands who sing lyrics like "We wanna rock 'n' roll!"; "OK, go ahead and rock 'n' roll. Who better than you? You've got the instruments"; is it bad when your lawyer says, "Hey, look, I'm no legal expert"; imagines a TV exec in the '40s, talking about Hitler: "He's very popular."
  • Margaret Smith: Whole family is fat; had an Uncle Joey who was shiny "like a sausage casing," and always burped when he talked; doesn't like hairy guys, because when they're in the bathtub "it looks like the sewer backed up"; says she's in love with Katz.;
