Katz gets a new phone system at the office with all kinds of great features, supposedly. He has Ben call it, but finds that calls are being forwarded to Laura's house (our first view of Laura at home -- in bed! -- in her nightshirt!). Lots of yelling ensues. Katz points out the feature that gives you a print-out of long-distance calls, and tells Laura that two calls were made to Prague. "I could have told you that," she says. Katz discusses modern technology with Stan and Julie, and then discusses rotary phones with Ben (Katz has a rotary cell phone).
- David Mamet: Discusses cliches with Laura; Katz tries to hypnotize him, but just bores him instead; the guy who did Mt. Rushmore did it on spec; he once wrote greeting cards, including "Heard You Died" (complete text of that card, as shown while David speaks: "Heard you died, hope it's not true, here's a card to say I'm thinking of you").
- Andy Kindler: Practices being upbeat with Laura; knows all there is to know about quicksand because all the old movies had quicksand in them; used to put sugar on his gum when the flavor ran out; eventually had to ask, "Is the gum even necessary?" (as well as a few variations of that question); hates corporate gigs, where they want you to do weird things and do jokes about Bob, because he's from Chicago; heard a guy say that his friend made $100,000 a year parking cars, and "even if he's lying, he's making $75,000"; "he'll buy anyone's premise, just bump it down 25 percent" -- "That guy over there says he's Jesus Christ; even if he's lying, he's John the Baptist."
