Ping-Pong
Dr. Katz: Professional Therapist - 517
Episode #62
"Ping-Pong"
Season 5: 10/26/98
Katz's old ping-pong rival David Stanick calls and wants to play again -- for $750. Katz agrees and starts to train and worry. Ben offers to help "psych him out": "I will follow him around everywhere he goes and I will put ground glass in his food and he will die." Ben tries to get some table tennis videos to help his dad. Finally, they go to the table tennis club above the Ford dealership, but Dave calls and has to cancel. So Katz and Ben play each other. Meanwhile, Ben tries to impress Laura with his opera knowledge, which is non-existent. ("Did you know Verdi was blind, had no legs?") At one point he imitates Pavarotti and Domingo. NOTES: Stan and Julie don't appear in this episode. Also, Todd Barry appears for a second time as the video store clerk.
- Kathy Griffin: Was a temp, but had no skills; was a baby-furniture salesperson ("You're baby is so cute it makes that other baby look like a ghoul or a living gargoyle"); was a waitress and an old woman vomited pie; dates young guys, including one who had never had a checking account before; boyfriend suggested draining the canals of Venice because "a lot of people probably drop their sunglasses in them"; doesn't want kids ("babies are very selfish").
- Laura Kightlinger: Has a holistic friend who gave her "energy crystals," which sound a lot like cocaine; shared a hotel room and bed with her mom, who mentioned at 2 a.m. that she didn't like the salad at dinner; calls her friend and has to "talk" to her 4-year-old daughter.
- Todd Barry: Plays the video store clerk, talking to Ben about late fees ("100 percent punitive") and stuff like that.
