Pot-Bellied Pigs

Dr. Katz: Professional Therapist - 101

Episode #1

"Pot-Bellied Pigs"

Season 1: 5/28/95

In the premiere episode, Ben sends off quite a lot of money -- $2,999.99 each -- to buy two pot-bellied pigs, theoretically to breed them, although he didn't specify which sexes he wanted. This sudden interest in animal husbandry comes after Katz lectures Ben about finding a job. He mentions that he himself once worked as a pimp. Ben meets Laura for the first time, asks her if she'd like to go out for coffee, and she does so, leaving him to answer the phones. Katz wants Laura to be nicer; she says, "Do you have any idea what it's like to deal with crazy people all day?" Stanley gives Katz financial advice. All the characters are introduced and their personalities are made clear in this episode.

  • Bill Braudis: Thinks his feet aren't finished yet; wore a clip-on earring in college; thought Hawaii would be nothing but people wearing grass skirts and coconut halves on their breasts, but turns out it was only him.
  • Dom Irrera: Has trouble convincing Laura his name is "Dom"; got a Friar Tuck haircut; the nuns hated being called "my man"; his dad would cheat on him by hanging out with other kids; wants to lie down on top of Katz; can't pay his bill, wants to "owe-ski."
