To the person who bought the Tri-Conderoga Triangular Pencils, No.2, 12-BX
I don’t know who you are. When people click an Amazon link from this site and subsequently buy something, I get a small kickback. I know what items were purchased, but I have no way of knowing who bought them.
The commission percentage is usually around 6.5 percent. So on a typical DVD, for example, I make maybe a dollar.
But you, pencil-buyer, you needed some Tri-Conderoga Triangular Pencils, No.2, 12/BX. I don’t know what this is. Some sort of pencil, obviously, but one that costs $6.25 for a box of 12. That’s a lot per pencil. Perhaps the pencils have magical powers. Whatever the case, you bought 18 boxes, and I earned a total of $7.28 on the deal, making it most profitable single purchase of the quarter. For this I thank you.

6.5%! That’s is a pretty sweet kickback. When I get around to buying something this month I’ll do it this way.

I bought something in January from Amazon that cost about $1200. If only I had clicked through this website first… Sorry!

I’d totally be charitable around here… if I used Amazon. (No one here likes Ebay?)

I would expect a purchase like this on the site of the leader of the Village of the Nerds.

What these pencils are are a joke in “The Producers.” When Leo quits the gig at the accounting firm, he says, “I quit! Here’s my visor…my Dixon Ticonderoga number two pencil…and my big finish!” And then he sings his way through a scene change. That’s what these pencils are.

You can see what we purchased? Oh… well… that giant box of adult novelty items? It was probably the guy that posted above me. Almost for sure. Definitely. *cough*

Nerdish details: Apparently these pencils are made by the same venerable company that produced Leo’s Dixon Ticonderoga #2, but this new model is the TRI-Conderoga. It’s a very fancy pencil, according to its website. Made from “California incense cedar” with an “exclusive ‘Soft-Touch’ finish,” it features “a triangular barrel, slightly larger than a traditional pencil, that comfortably promotes proper writing techniques and minimizes hand cramping.” The website even touts its green and gold ferrule.
However, even though Eric gets a hefty commission, I wouldn’t buy 18 dozen at half a buck each. I’ve grown to prefer the cheap plastic Paper-Mate mechanical pencils, because I never have to sharpen them. Much more convenient when you’re working away from the office, you see.

The pencils were mine. I told you, Mister, that if you included an easy link, I’d use it silly. Thanks to Jeff for listening and adding the drop-down link from the homepage. Use it, everyone!
For those of you who don’t know, the Tri-Conderoga Triangular Pencils are THE MOST FABULOUS pencils invented.
First, they are triangular. How scientific is that? What it boils down to is that they feel really good in the hand while writing. They’re also just a smidge larger in diameter than a regular pencil, which also feels good but means that you’ve got to have a special pencil sharpener to keep them pointy–but it’s worth it!
Also, they have a satin black matte finish that is AWESOME. It’s like you’re touching something satiny. And black. And matte. And the erasers are black. It’s like, how much more black can these pencils be? And the answer is none. None more black.
Do I sound crazy? Or am I actually the sanest person you’ve ever met!
Actually, I work at a Fancy-Pants type place so we have to have the pencils to match.

I’m going to Amazon.com right now to order some stuff! It’s like a spending frenzy. And I’m telling all my friends to click on Eric’s link, too. I might even order some satin black matte pencils.
December 4th, 2006 at 3:50 pm
I guess I’ll answer that. You sound crazy.
No, seriously. Are you giving some of the pencils away as gifts or not gifts but just giving them away? Because if you aren’t, it does seem slightly extreme to purchase 216 pencils at $0.35 each.

I used to work at a store where they sold those regular yellow Papermate pencils at $.25 each. They flew off the shelf. Why? Because people needed pencils.
Binky, I am there with you. I have recently started purchasing from Amazon via this website because of the quick link. And although I don’t expect to have a shout out for what I purchase from this blog, I would hope that somebody is getting a kickback for me purchasing loot, instead of Amazon keeping it all. If there’s a kickback to be had, someone should get it!

Carrie, the pencils are for my workplace.
But I do have a crush on these pencils, so I guess it does qualify me as crazy.
Actually, what IS going to make me crazy is that I spelled “you’re” as “your” in my previous post. Grrr…

Maybe the moderator will fix it for you, Binky. They did that for me once. They are cool like that.
December 5th, 2006 at 1:50 pm
(He fixed it for you, Binky.)
So if I buy something from Amazon.com, and it’s for Eric, it’s like I’m getting him two gifts in one! I just hope that doesn’t mean I have to get all the other kids extra presents, too…
I’m giving the link to all my friends who might use Amazon. If enough people gave Eric a percentage of their purchases, he could buy me something really, really good for Christmas!
December 5th, 2006 at 2:40 pm
I’m willing to use the link when I make Amazon purchases in exchange for periodic lists of weird things that people buy after linking through this site…well that and for the columns and movie reviews and stuff, I guess.

Not to detract from you getting kickbacks, but what you’re saying suggests that if I made my own web page, and had an Amazon link, I could essentially give myself a 6.5% discount on anything I bought from Amazon.
Lucky for you, I’m lazy and don’t have a web site at the moment, so I’ll just have to use yours. =)
(I am personally addicted to the Pilot G-2 pens we use at work. And I haven’t even done that trick where you get the Montblanc ink cartridge to fit in them.)
