It’s Labor Day and I’m still visiting friends and kinfolk in Utah, but I thought you might like to see this delightful YouTube video of Leslie Uggams completely blowing the lyrics to “June is Bustin’ Out All Over” at a Rodgers and Hammerstein tribute concert. Listen carefully to what she says. Also, watch her face while she’s messing up. It gets all pinched and scrunchy. I agree that she did a good job of keeping that bizarre scat singing in time with the rhythm of the melody, but yeah, wow.
That reminds me of some bad dreams I have now and then where I’ve been given a big part in some theater show and forgot to learn my lines and it’s opening night and oh crap, I’ve got to find a script somewhere so I can somehow read off of it while on stage.
