TV review: ‘K-Ville’
“K-Ville” (Mondays, Fox): As bland and generic a cop show as you can imagine. There’s a loose-cannon cop (Anthony Anderson) and his mismatched partner (Cole Hauser), a gruff and blustery but ultimately soft-hearted captain (John Carroll Lynch), and the usual assortment of crimes and schemes which they solve using superhuman leaps in logic and intuition. The only thing noteworthy about it is that it’s set in New Orleans in 2007, with post-Katrina reconstruction still the foremost subject on everyone’s mind. The show’s creators are obviously hoping this will be enough to bring in viewers. But honestly, there’s nothing about the show that you can’t get — and in higher quality — from other cop shows. The series is being filmed in New Orleans, and they’re using local actors and technicians when possible, pumping millions into the economy in the process. So I guess you could watch the show as a service project. Call it a charitable contribution. TiVo verdict: I gave at the office.

I can’t say I’m at all surprised by this review. It looked like every cop show ever made, except that they also made some generic references to taking back the city or rebuilding or something. Blah.

I watched and was mildly entertained, but I felt compelled to see what a cop show/movie with black and white mismatched partners would look like without Martin Lawrence.

I thought the writing was absolutely HORRIFIC! It took me two hours just to get through it because I had to keep stopping it so I could go do dishes or something more entertaining like that. I was so excited to watch it because Louisiana is my home, but it was SO BAD! Sadness.

If it’s set in New Orleans, why is it called “K-Ville”?

*crosses fingers and prays for another studio shill*

Katrina - ville?

Yeah…Katrina Ville. Someone spray-painted “Welcome to K-Ville” on a building after Katrina. And just FYI, no one actually calls New Orleans K-Ville.

I almost wished I hadn’t asked. That is so stupid.

But if the show becomes popular, people not from LA will start calling it K-ville. And that will drive some locals crazy trying to correct the fools.

Is that what they do in the OC?
September 19th, 2007 at 1:34 pm
NO. We do NOT call it the OC. What is up with Fox and lame inauthentic nicknames? I predict their next show will be called “Frisco.”

Ah, Anthony Anderson! Enemy of all that is good and true.
Nope, won’t be watching this.
