Hilarious new YouTube video
Remember the “Star Wars” movies, and how they were very popular and featured a weapon known as a “light saber”? You had to be very agile and quick to use it properly — but it turns out a chubby Canadian kid can wield one pretty well, too, as seen in this hilarious new video.
HA!

This video is actually a couple years old, and the subject of numerous parodies, from homemade youtube videos to Arrested Development
I still love your blog

Oh my! One late summer day two summers ago, I had just finished mowing the lawn and as I swept grass clippings off the sidewalk, a snake jumped (literally) out of a gap between the sidewalk and the lawn and went speeding across the lawn. Judging by our neighbor’s laughter, I think I must have looked a bit like this guy as I swung my broom around and squealed. I’m glad there wasn’t a camera running. Watching this guy is embarrassing enough . . . .

What a fantastic brand new video that you have found! It is wonderful and new!

Even though it is a very obvious joke, I find the irony you have used in calling this a “new YouTube video” to be hilarious.

Brand new! Only posted January 15, 2006!

An internet classic. Even better are the spin-offs (the last one is my favorite):

Is this supposed to be satire? I.e. the movie is really old and run out, so I’ll post a blog post claiming that it’s new and exciting. Zing!

Wow! Videos on the Internet! This is cool!

I didn’t see the title of this video, but nothing in it suggests that what he’s using is meant to be a light saber. It could be a plain old quarter staff. Or drill team practice.

This video has been immortalized in Weird Al’s video for his song “White & Nerdy.”

Clumpy, I’m guessing Eric intentionally found an old one to post and called it new based upon the load of flak he’s gotten over the previous youtube videos he was late in getting a jump on. Joke’s on us.
March 26th, 2008 at 11:32 am
Tune in tomorrow when Eric discovers: “All your base are belong to us.”

it’s new to me. and i love it. those spin off videos are great too. this blog has turned my frown upside down!

I always liked the remix 2.0.

I wish I could get $351,000 for recording a stupid video of myself, letting it leak all over the Internet, then suing the people who were mean to me about it. That is the smartest geek in the world and I salute him.

I get the feeling Eric really thought the Clinton campaign fiasco was “new” news because he missed it while he was at SXSW, but I agree with Clumpy on this post. This has got to be some kind of joke.
March 26th, 2008 at 6:20 pm
I should have caught on it was a joke sooner, what with the similar wording between the Hillary ad post and this one.

Karen–it’s a golf ball retriever. He was apparently practicing moves for the fun of it and some classmates found the tape and stuck it up on YouTube as a lightsaber fight. And it took off from there.

Thanks, peptidefarmer, for that third Star Wars Kid spin-off. I nearly got myself thrown out of the library from laughing at it so much. Wonderful.
March 26th, 2008 at 7:11 pm
I still laugh at the All Your Base flash video; especially the Wheel of Fortune clip. For some reason, the thought of somebody saying that with a straight face and then jumping all over the stage at having won something like $3,000 really amuses me. Yes, I am easily amused.
March 27th, 2008 at 2:19 pm
You’re behind the times, Eric.

Savvy Veteran: Looking at the comments that have been posted, I’d have to say the joke is apparently not as “very obvious” as you and I both thought it was. I’d also have to say that apparently people don’t read the comments already posted before posting theirs. (”Hmm, I wonder if this is a joke?” people say, even though others have already pointed out that it is.)
March 27th, 2008 at 5:09 pm
I didn’t miss the joke, I just thought my comment was too funny to not post it.
March 27th, 2008 at 10:32 pm
I think that it is only a “very obvious” joke to those with an incredibly sophisticated sense of humor, such as the one that Eric and I seem to posses.
March 28th, 2008 at 12:20 am
Well, the “HA!” made it pretty clear, but the internet can be ambiguous, and its denizens irony-impaired. No need to confuse us any more than we already are.
March 28th, 2008 at 11:33 am
I’m kind of disappointed that this link didn’t actually result in me getting “Rick Rolled.”

I’m just missing the context - what made you think of this now? Did you have some funny conversation about this brand spanking new video?
Also, a guest poster says:
It did sound sarcastic - he is saying ‘HA!’ cause it isn’t really funny and because isn’t new. Oh, you got me.
Love,
Fuad
