Friday movie roundup - Feb. 1
I think the Sundance Flu’s destroying angel has passed over my house, probably thanks to my covering the doorpost with the blood of Parker Posey. At any rate, I feel kind of OK, despite how not-OK I sound in this week’s podcast.
It’s a light week for the moving pictures anyway. Of the three wide releases, two of them — “The Eye” and “Strange Wilderness” — were not screened for critics. The third, “Over Her Dead Body,” benefits greatly from Paul Rudd and suffers mightily from Eva Longoria. But then, don’t we all. My review is at Film.com.
In limited release, there’s an excellent film called “Starting Out in the Evening” that you should check out. If the film had gotten more attention in December, I think Frank Langella could have found himself with an Oscar nomination.
Oh, apparently there’s also a Hannah Montana concert in 3-D playing at some theaters. In the words of Lucille Bluth, I don’t know who that is, and I don’t care to find out.

This Longoria of which you speak was on Letterman last night. A very annoying clip of the aforementioned movie was displayed. It was painfully obvious that the audience was not impressed, and they responded, as did the Longoria creature, with a lot of nervous laughter during the first few seconds after the clip.
I can think of few fates worse than having to sit through 90 minutesof Longoria carrying on and on with her “Oh no you di-n’t” and so forth…

Am I imagining things or didn’t you say you were going to be reviewing Dutcher’s “Falling”? I’m awaiting your word on that one…

“The Sentinel” was on HBO one day when I was home ill. I’m dumber when I’m ill, and I like conspiracy movies so I tried to watch it. I found Eva Longoria totally unbelievable and impossible to watch. Even in my mentally weakened condition, I gave up on the movie. She does have beautiful hair though. She should stick with those commercials.

Heh, I’ve noticed that a lot of people should’ve stuck with TV. Most of the roster of SNL, most obviously, but Jessica Alba (who was pretty good on Dark Angel) and ELP are the latest examples.

Uh oh … you mentioned her name. Now you’re going to start getting e-mails from preteen girls.

If that’s a veiled criticism about me I won’t hear it, and I won’t respond to it.

“I’m dumber when I’m ill..” That made me laugh. That’d go great on a T-shirt!
(well, as great as any funny quote goes on a T-sirt, which is always funny the first couple times you see it..then you kind of try to ignore because no matter how funny something is, the millionth time you see it it’s just not funny… so I guess those kinda shirts are for people with enough disposable income to always be buying shirts that they only wear for about a day or two before buying another amusing T-shirt….)
If you’re still reading this, I apologize….
